SUMMARY:Members & Invitation Only I EACC Florida Transportation\, Logistics & Customs Meeting
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]The global supply chain is susceptible to various threats\, including terrorism\, and cyber-attacks\, so many countries worldwide have created voluntary supply chain security programs. Participating in these programs demonstrates a commitment to improving cargo security practices and ensuring shipments’ integrity. To that effect\, the US created the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT). In exchange for demonstrating a secure supply chain\, participants enjoy many benefits\, including a reduction in customs exams.\n\nJoin us at the beautiful Blue Lagoon offices of Pernod Ricard on February 26 for an update on key features of CTPAT including benefits for participants and a discussion about best practices.\n\nIf you are an importer\, exporter\, customs broker\, carrier\, consolidator\, or otherwise involved in international trade\, this meeting is for you!\n\nTOPICS FOR DISCUSSION\n\n The evolution of CTPAT’s human rights due diligence requirements\n Supply chain mapping – the value add for CTPAT compliance and beyond (think UFLPA\, disruption resilience\, etc)\n CTPAT as a vehicle to prompt positive bias from government regulators\n\nEXPERT SPEAKER\n\n Shawn Harwood\, Trade Investigations Specialist – Squire Patton Boggs\n\nEVENT SCHEDULE\n\n11.30 am – 12.00 pm: Arrivals/registration\n12.00 pm – 1.30 pm: Presentation & discussion\n1.30 pm – 2.00pm: Lunch & networking\n\nLOCATION\n\nExact location to be communicated to confirmed guests only.\n\nFor details on how to receive an invitation\, please contact Christina Sleszynska at csleszynska@eaccfl.com\n\nSPEAKER BIO\n\nShawn Harwood is a nationally recognized trade investigations specialist in Squire Patton Bogg’s International Trade & Foreign Investment Practice\, based in Washington DC. His broad expertise supports the practice’s work in regulatory investigations\, including customs compliance and sanctions\, trade and government contract disputes\, and international partnerships.\n\nShawn’s unique background offers clients critical support in addressing issues related to export control policies and regulations\, antidumping/countervailing duties\, and enhancing white collar and trade investigations. He also works with clients to develop supply chain risk mitigation strategies and implement compliance and due diligence programs.\n\nShawn served as a career special agent and international attaché with US Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). After retiring from government service in 2023\, he founded a consultancy specializing in supply chain risk management\, human rights due diligence and customs regulatory compliance.\n\n——————————————\n\nWhy a dedicated Task Force?\n\nWith the second-largest foreign trade zone network in the U.S.\, Florida is home to 11\,500+ logistics and distribution establishments. The broader wholesale trade\, transportation\, and logistics industry accounts for over 67\,000+ establishments and employs more than half a million individuals across the state. Evolving geopolitics\, recurring supply chain disruptions\, the “greening” of the industry and increasing regulatory requirements are impacting global trade and it is expected that trade will become less global and more regionalized with a renewed focus on the Transatlantic Corridor – North America\, Latin America and Europe.\n\nWhile there are a number of entities and professional groups – federal\, State and local – that serve these industries and their professionals to advance their interests\, few if any have a transatlantic focus or specifically serve European companies and professionals from these industries present in Florida. And whereas specific know-how and expertise represent a competitive advantage for any company\, the issues confronted by the sector are the same for all.\n\nEACC Florida’s Task Force is loosely inspired from a similar TF run by EACC Auvergne-Rhone-Alps: https://eacc-ra.com/task-forces/.\n\nMission: to bring together active professionals who understand the benefits of sharing best practices across industries\, ensuring that there is no silo thinking.\n\nRole: to organize meetings on a regular basis to address strategic issues\, share findings and best practices and make mutual recommendations for improvement in a given sector of activity. Chatham House rules or any other confidentiality rule might be used to allow for open exchange during the meetings.\n\nTask Force Members: representatives of EACC Florida Member companies with interests in the transportation/logistics industry invited to serve on the Task Force.\n\nIf you wish to receive further details about the Task Force\, please contact Christina Sleszynska at csleszynska@eaccfl.com\n\nMany thanks to our Task Force Members![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” images=”35959\,36190\,35975\,35968″ css=””][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Fireside Chat I Tech Policy in the EU and US under Trump 2.0 - Regulatory Challenges & Business Opportunities for the Industry
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]REGISTRATIONS ARE CLOSED\n\nOn January 20\, 2025\, President Donald Trump issued the “America First Trade Policy” memorandum\, outlining a comprehensive strategy to prioritize American economic and national security interests – including in the tech industry -and representing a radical shift from policies under the Biden Administration.\n\nYet\, continued collaboration between the E.U. and the U.S. is more important than ever due to a combination of competition from non-market economies and a lack of capacity in three key geo-strategic areas: telecommunications\, semiconductor manufacturing\, and critical minerals and raw materials. DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Join us for the second Meeting of EACC Florida’s Task Force Transportation\, Logistics & Customs.\n\nIf you are an active professional in these industries and understand the benefits of sharing best practices across industries ensuring that there is no silo thinking\, this event is for you!\n\nWhile there are entities and professional groups – federal\, State and local – that serve the transportation\, logistics & customs industries and their professionals to advance their interests\, few if any have a transatlantic focus or specifically serve European companies and professionals from these industries present in Florida. SUMMARY:AI in Business - Navigating Risk in Adopting a Powerful but Not Well-Understood Technology
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_btn title=”REGISTER” color=”blue” align=”center” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.eventbrite.com%2Fe%2Fai-in-business-navigating-risk-tickets-793769003457″][vc_column_text]Whether in search of reduced costs\, improved service or simply a sense of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out)\, companies – large and small – are rapidly moving to adopt the increasingly powerful artificial intelligence business tools (“AI”) now available to them.  These companies are using AI both as a standalone technology for specialized use cases and/or embedding it within common enterprise software systems that handle core business processes.\n\nWhile AI can deliver impressive results\, even the CEOs of some major providers of AI tools acknowledge that they do not fully understand the behavior of this powerful technology.  For example\, AI has a common tendency to “hallucinate”\, a term used in AI-speak to mean make up facts and assert the existence of things\, people or circumstances that are not real.\n\nAlthough a number of countries and regions are developing AI strategies and regulatory frameworks\, the technology\, its benefits\, risks\, and ethical issues it generates are not necessarily well understood by the regulators. The use of AI by organizations – especially generative AI – is increasingly prompting questions around intellectual property\, data privacy\, discrimination\, litigation\, transparency\, ethics\, and regulation which largely remain unanswered.\n\nThis program will look at some of the key issues companies involved in transatlantic business are facing as it relates to the use of AI\, how regulatory frameworks are being developed on both sides of the Atlantic\, and how companies can manage risk in the still muddled AI waters.\n\nSPEAKERS\n\n Evi Fuelle\, Global Policy Director – Credo AI\n Laura Juanes Micas\, VP\, Privacy Officer – Restaurant Brands International\n Oleksii Yaremenko\, Director\, Global Services – LeverX\n David Zetoony\, Co-Chair\, U.S. Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Practice – Greenberg Traurig\n Alan Sutin\, Chair Technology\, Media & Telecommunications Practice and Senior Chair Global Intellectual Property & Technology Practice – Greenberg Traurig\, and President – EACC Florida [Moderator]\n\nTOPICS FOR DISCUSSION\n\n What are some of the major benefits offered by this technology?\n What are the known drawbacks and risks?\n Legal and regulatory environment for companies that plan to use AI in the US\, EU & beyond\n\n US: laws or regulations on the books at the federal or state level regulating AI\n EU: AI Act & related regulatory frameworks\n Latin America and other parts of the world\n Impact of emergence of AI technologies on existing laws that are not specific to AI (eg. privacy\, employment\, etc)\n\n\n What are the high-level issues that companies should be aware of in order to mitigate risks when using AI in an uncertain regulatory environment?\n\nEvent schedule\n4.30 PM – 5.00 PM:        Registration\n5.00 PM – 6.00 PM:        Program\n6.00 PM – 6.30 PM:        Networking\n\nRegistration\nEACC Member: Free\nGuest with Promo Code: Free\nEACC Non-Member: $30\n\nREGISTER HERE\n\nSPECIAL NOTE: if you are attending this program\, you and colleagues from your company are invited to register for a Design Thinking Workshop powered by LeverX. SUMMARY:Sustainability in Transportation - Bridging the Transatlantic Gap
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The U.S. Administration unveiled on 10 January 2023 the National Blueprint for Transportation Decarbonization\, a “landmark interagency framework of strategies and actions to remove all emissions from the transportation sector by 2050”.  This blueprint proposes a multimodal approach and lays out three key strategies to achieve decarbonization: increase convenience; improve efficiency; and transition to clean options. Building and relying on the historic investments and funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA)\, the blueprint sets ambitious but achievable targets and actions across all modes of transport for 2030\, 2040 and 2050.\n\nAs a major enabler of this strategy\, the IRA is perceived around the world as a crucial step in the global decarbonization efforts\, with massive opportunities for clean energy production and manufacturing in the United States.\n\nPlease join us for a high-level discussion on what type of policies are being implemented on both sides of the Atlantic to decarbonize transportation\, how they will play out in maritime and air transportation\, and on supply chains\, what opportunities exist for companies active in the areas of clean energy production and manufacturing\, and more.\n\nSamuel K. Skinner\, Former Secretary of Transportation & Chief of Staff to President George H.W. SUMMARY:Business in Flux - Perspectives from a Transatlantic Panel of C-Suite Women
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]At the end of 2022\, the IMF’s annual economic outlook for 2023 projected weak growth across the world in the face of elevated inflation\, higher interest rates\, reduced investment\, disruptions caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the lingering impact of COVID especially in China. The sharp downturn in growth was expected to be widespread\, with World Bank forecasts in 2023 revised down for 95% of advanced economies and nearly 70% of emerging market and developing economies. Although the economic indicators at the start of 2023 seem to be more favorable than expected\, any new adverse development—such as higher-than-expected inflation\, abrupt rises in interest rates to contain it\, a resurgence of the COVID-19 pandemic\, or escalating geopolitical tensions—could push the global economy into recession.\n\nIn this program\, a transatlantic panel of C-Suite women joined by Arancha González Laya\, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain and Dean of the School of International Affairs at Sciences Po in Paris\, will explore these and other challenges faced by global companies in this uncertain global geopolitical and economic environment.\n\nSPEAKERS\n\n Carol Cabezas\, President – Azamara Cruise Lines\n Arancha Gonzalez-Laya\, Dean of the Paris School of International Affairs at Sciences Po (Paris)\n Nadine Heubel\, former CEO Heinemann Americas; Senior Managing Director – Travel Retail North America & Global Wholesale – Newmark\n Daniella Silberstein\, Shareholder – Greenberg Traurig and Co-chair of GT’s Miami Women’s Initiative [Moderator]\n Monica Vazquez\, Executive Vice President & General Manager – Abanca USA\n\nTOPICS FOR DISCUSSION\n\n What are the economic perspectives for 2023 and is recession still a risk?\n How will business investment respond to recent changes in asset prices and the commitment of monetary policymakers around the world to slower growth?\n What are the perspectives for the transatlantic relationship in relation to business and trade ?\n What will the return of industrial policy in the U.S. (with the Inflation Reduction Act) mean for transatlantic investment and trade?\n What will be the longer-term ramifications for global fragmentation of the sanctions imposed on Russia and on Chinese semiconductors?\n Are there new roles for China\, India and in particular Latin America in this new economic environment?\n How are these trends playing out in places like Florida and Miami in their efforts to establish themselves as global business hubs?\n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Event schedule\n\n 8.30 am – 8.45 am:   Registration & Coffee\n 8.45 am – 9:45 am:   Program\n 9:45 am – 10.30 am: Networking\n\nRegistration Fee\n\n EACC Member: Free\n Guest with Promo Code: Free\n EACC Non-Member: $30\n Online attendance: Free\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_btn title=”IN PERSON ATTENDANCE” color=”blue” align=”center” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.eventbrite.com%2Fe%2Fbusiness-in-flux-perspectives-from-a-transatlantic-panel-of-c-suite-women-registration-525121952897″][vc_btn title=”ONLINE ATTENDANCE” color=”blue” align=”center” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fgtlaw.zoom.us%2Fmeeting%2Fregister%2FtJ0ldOysrz8jHtehbaaOw2u70Mw8bt2mjc3G”][/vc_column][vc_column][vc_column_text]Speaker Bios\n\nCarol Cabezas\n\nCarol Cabezas is the President of Azamara.\n\nShe is responsible for the full range of operations of the cruise line including Sales\, Marketing\, Revenue\, Finance\, Deployment and Shipboard Operations.  Carol’s dedication to the cruise industry with a career spanning over two decades stems from her passion for travel\, and cruise in particular.\n\nPrior to that\, Carol was Vice President of Investor Relations for Royal Caribbean Group\, managing relationships with the global investor and analyst community.
