SUMMARY:Webinar | Quarterly EU Economic Update: Forged in Crisis – How the War in Ukraine May Strengthen the European Union & the Transatlantic Relationship
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Program brought to you by EACC New York.\n\nThe Russian invasion of Ukraine has unleashed a humanitarian crisis and a major macro-economic shock that fundamentally changes the global economic outlook. The EU is directly exposed to spillovers from the conflict\, but the impact will be more pronounced for countries on its eastern border. Surging commodity prices\, disrupted supply chains\, and unprecedented trade and financial sanctions will all weigh on growth and push inflation higher in the near-term.\n\nWith that said\, key economic indicators show that the European economic expansion overall should remain strong enough to weather these war-related disruptions and continue its recovery. The outlook is clouded by significant uncertainties regarding the outcome of the war in Ukraine\, the impacts of economic sanctions on Russia\, and possible responses from Russia and other major geopolitical actors. It is clear that the war presents many challenges for the EU\, especially over the medium-term\, and it drives home the need to accelerate the energy transition. Securing clean\, reliable sources of energy are now not simply an environmental priority\, but a matter of geopolitical security for Europe.\n\nIt is often said that Europe will be forged in crises but with challenges come opportunity. The continent is responding with solidarity\, strengthening and deepening the European Union while providing aid to Ukraine. Forceful policy actions are reinforcing a broad-based economic recovery by supporting business and household incomes\, encouraging investment\, and promoting the green and digital transitions.\n\nJoin us for an in-depth discussion of the challenges and opportunities facing the European economy. Our panel will begin with an update on the European Commission’s newly released Spring 2022 Economic Forecast\, the first to factor in the war in Ukraine and associated sanctions on Russia.\n\nWe will then discuss the major challenges and opportunities facing Europe\, covering a variety of possible scenarios and key questions facing policy makers:\n\n● What is the inflation outlook and how should policy makers respond?\n● How should the EU adjust its fiscal stance to deal with the impact of the war?\n● What policy tools are available to ease the uneven impact of the war and refugee inflow on different EU member states?\n● How are businesses likely to adapt their supply chains?\n● What are the main EU policy developments in the energy sector?\n● What does the war mean for the broader global economic and financial architecture that has been in place since World War Two?\n\nSPEAKERS:\n● Balazs Parkanyi\, Counsellor for Economic and Financial Affairs\, EU DELEGATION TO THE UNITED STATES\n● Ben Carliner\, Senior Economist\, EU DELEGATION TO THE UNITED STATES\n● Yvonne Bendinger-Rothschild\, Executive Director\, EACCNY [Moderator]\n\nTIME:\n1:00 – 2:00 PM EDT | 19:00h – 20:00h CET\n\nREGISTRATION FEE:\nEACCFL Members: Free\nEACCFL non-Members: Free\n\nREGISTER HERE\n\nThis Webinar is funded by the European Union\n\n \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:WEBINAR - Quarterly EU Economic Update: A Rocky Road to Recovery – Can the Recovery & Resilience Fund be the game changer the EU economy needs?
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]\n\n\nThere is a lot of momentum behind the recovery and we should see some solid growth numbers for the EU economies over the remainder of the year and into 2022. High vaccination rates and cautious public health policies are now paying growth dividends across the EU. With that said\, the pace of the recovery is moderating as supply shortages and logistical bottlenecks weigh on output. Inventories are very low and many manufacturers simply can’t get the supplies they need. On the labor market side\, it has been challenging to fill open positions due to skills mismatches.\n\nIn other words\, short-term demand policy seems to have worked well both in Europe and the US. Savings rates are high and investment is growing. But Covid-related supply constraints are holding back growth and look set to last longer than expected. Policy makers on both sides of the Atlantic now need to focus on the medium- to long-term. In this vein\, the EU’s Recovery and Resilience Facility [RRF] will finance a lot of new investment in green and digital technologies that will boost growth and productivity further while ‘future-proofing’ the economic structure by linking RRF funds to structural reform. RRF roll-out has already started and policy makers as well as the private sector are optimistic\, especially about the speed of the green and digital transitions.\n\nThe EU Commission still expects supply shortages to be temporary\, but in the meantime\, they are feeding into higher headline inflation\, and there is uncertainty over how to effectively address these bottlenecks in the short term. Rising energy prices are also causing a headache for policy makers in Europe\, where many countries depend on imported gas. This raises important strategic questions\, including whether green investments will smooth out or aggravate tensions in the energy market.\n\nJoin us for an in-depth analysis of the European economy and the newly released autumn 2021 Economic Forecast. Our panel will discuss the recent economic data and public policy developments through mid-October and weighs the prospects for European and global growth against a range of potential risks.\n\nSPEAKERS:\n● Balazs Parkanyi\, Counsellor for Economic and Financial Affairs\, EU DELEGATION TO THE UNITED STATES\n● Ben Carliner\, Senior Economist\, EU DELEGATION TO THE UNITED STATES\n● Yvonne Bendinger-Rothschild\, Executive Director\, EACCNY [Moderator]\n\nTIME:\nWednesday\, November 17th\, 2021\n1:00 PM – 2:00 PM EDT / 19:00 h – 20:00 h CET\n\nREGISTRATION FEE:\nEACC Members: Free\nEACC Friends: Free\n\nREGISTER HERE\n\nThis webinar is funded by the European Union.\n\n\n\n\n \n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:WEBINAR - Responsible Capitalism – The ESG Integration Balancing Act
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Program brought to you by EACCNY.\n\nPlease join us for a discussion about how companies are balancing the bottom-line with environmentally and socially responsible governance.\n\nKey discussion topics to include:\n\nIntegration of ESG into business strategy and compliance programs – ESG is not “new” particularly in the business and legal spheres. But how companies address ESG is becoming less prescriptive and requires more tailoring of the risks and opportunities respective of their business strategy and embedded into their culture of compliance in order to ensure a sustainable approach.\n\nUnderstanding and applying ESG standards and regulations – The universe of ESG standards is wide and often confusing while country-specific regulations are rolling out at a quick clip. We discuss approaches for understanding which ESG standards may be most relevant to your business and current and emerging regulations to address now. We will also discuss ratings and how to align with standards reporting.\n\nDeveloping ESG metrics and goals for now and for a sustainable future – Prevailing market sentiment has been and still continues to focus on using metrics for measuring ESG performance\, primarily for climate and carbon goals. However\, without properly tying metrics back to strategic initiatives and understanding the explicit financial impact\, the measures can prove to be meaningless for sustainability and building a more resilient organization. We will further explore operational opportunities for implementing ESG initiatives in procurement\, supply chain\, and as part of asset management.\n\nESG Pitfalls: Understanding disclosure\, green-washing\, and dispute risks\n• What regulations require non-financial and financial disclosures and where?\n• What is green-washing and how can companies mitigate the risk?\n• How to know about risks and avoid litigation pertaining to ESG disclosures and operations?\n\nSPEAKERS:\n• Anna Athanasopoulou\, Head of Unit Proximity\, Social Economy\, Creative Industries\, DG Internal Market\, Industry\, Entrepreneurship and SMEs\, EUROPEAN COMMISSION\n• Brooke Hopkins\, Managing Director\, ALIXPARTNERS LLP (Moderator)\n• Maureen Kline\, VP Public Affairs & Sustainability\, PIRELLI TIRE NORTH AMERICA\n• Fabio Massimo Natalucci\, Deputy Director\, INTERNATIONAL MONETARY FUND\n• Annette Michelle (Shelli) Willis\, Partner\, TROUTMAN PEPPER\, LLP\n\nTIME:\n10:00 AM – 11:00 AM EDT / 16:00 h – 17:00 h CET\n\nREGISTRATION FEE:\nEACC Members: Free\nEACC non-Members: Free\n\nREGISTER HERE[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:WEBINAR - Expanding Operations into New Territories: Has the Recipe for Success Changed in a Post-Covid World?
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Brought to you by EACC Florida\n\nExpanding operations into new territories around the world has traditionally offered important commercial opportunities for both for multinational corporations and SMEs. Whereas the trend toward globalization was well underway\, the COVID-19 pandemic marked an abrupt halt\, leading to a global recession\, a severe disruption of global trade and a sharp decrease in foreign direct investments.\n\nSome countries are still managing the crisis. Others are slowly emerging from it with governments mostly focusing on supporting their domestic economies. Companies around the world however are looking at what commercial opportunities are available to them in other territories and considering how the sanitary crisis and its consequences is impacting plans to expand.\n\nLooking at Europe and the United States\, with a focus on financial transactions\, accounting\, taxation and human resources\, the panel will discuss the push towards more responsible governance\, how the tendency toward international alignment and cooperation between jurisdictions is being challenged by an increase in local\, sometimes idiosyncratic\, administrative and regulatory complexities and why these trends provide both challenges and opportunities for businesses considering expanding operations to other territories.\n\nTOPICS FOR DISCUSSION\n\nTrends toward more responsible Governance. When planning to expand\, companies need to consider the following:\n\n A shift away from traditional offshoring impacting the choice of new locations;\n Increased protection of employees as businesses are encouraged to be responsible employers;\n An increase in mandated use of third parties;\n Compliance requirements as part of market entry strategy with stricter penalties for non-compliance being implemented especially in more complex jurisdictions;\n Personal consequences for non-compliance on directors.\n\nTrends in international vs. local regulatory and administrative complexity. Issues include:\n\n\n Meeting global obligations with the trend toward standardization via regulations such as CRS\, UBO and FATCA;\n Managing international reporting requirements vs. local ones such as the OECD’s Common Reporting Standard (CRS);\n Navigating the complexities of local/regional jurisdictions opening up to international business while simultaneously enacting rules potentially impacting investments such as the European Commission’s Proposal for Regulating Foreign Subsidies Control;\n Understanding the domination of local legislation in some business areas such as accounting and incorporations;\n Managing the international and local complexities of assembling a workforce.\n\nSPEAKERS\n\n Juan Botin\, Project Director – Grupo Santander (Madrid)\n Jan Willem van Drimmelen\, Chief Commercial Officer & Head of North America – TMF Group (Amsterdam)\n Edoardo Gambaro\, Partner – Greenberg Traurig (Milano)\n Tyler Lavin\, VP\, Development and Investment – North America at citizenM hotels (New York)\n Mike Morroni\, Head of Global Client Directors and North America Head of Business Development – TMF Group (Miami) [Moderator]\n\nSPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES\n\n\nJuan Botín\n\nJuan´s whole career has been linked to the International sphere. SUMMARY:WEBINAR - Is the End in Sight? 17 Years of the Airbus-Boeing Dispute
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]This program is brought to you by EACC Cincinnati\n\nIn October 2004 the U.S. hauled Airbus in front of the World Trade Organization\, calling European loans to Airbus illegal subsidies. Since then\, there have been counter-complaints and negotiations and appeals. Meanwhile\, a global pandemic has walloped the aerospace industry\, and China is making a serious run at getting into the civilian airliner market.\n\nIn March 2021 the new U.S. Administration reached agreements with the UK and the EU to “pause” tariffs in the dispute for an initial period of four months to give negotiators time to see if a settlement can be reached. Three months into the pause\, what progress has been made (if any)? Is there a settlement to be had\, and if so\, what might it look like? And if not\, what would a return to tariffs mean for the aerospace industry specifically and for transatlantic (and global) trade in general?\n\nOur expert panelists – from both sides of the Atlantic — will review the state of play offer perspectives on the way forward. Our attorneys will review the history of the dispute and summarize the specific complaints as well as update us on the status of the talks\, while our manufacturers will review how the issue has impacted their firms in the past as well as consider how a resolution (or non-resolution) might affect future operational and investment decisions.\n\nSPEAKERS\n\n Jan de Beer\, Office Member-in-Charge\, Frost Brown Todd LLC\n Philippe Garnier\, CEO and General Manager – SAFRAN Landing Systems\n Andrew Tetley\, Partner – Reed Smith LLP\n\nREGISTER HERE[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:WEBINAR - The Effects of a Wandering Workforce on Taxation of Corporations and their Employees
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Brought to you by EACCNY\n\nWhen many businesses made the swift decision to embrace remote work due to COVID-19\, the future was uncertain. Nearly a year later\, with the pandemic still a key component in our lives\, steps taken as a quick call to stabilize operations\, have become routine. COVID-19 has both accelerated the evolution of the remote workforce and forced a change in business model for many companies. While employees may enjoy the flexibility that this allows\, employers must grapple with compliance costs and administrative burdens\, reevaluate transfer pricing policies and update organizational policies to prevent unintended tax and other consequences on a federal\, state and international level.\n\nPlease join us for a discussion on the challenges that come with a remote workforce and the need to reevaluate the steps taken around staff assignments\, planning and other key issues as businesses focus on their new operating models.\n\nOur panelists will discuss:\nThe role of residency in tax law in light of limited or enhanced mobility.\n● What legal issues come into play including Permanent Establishments? How to identify or prevent business related concerns associated with compliance and and transfer pricing issues?\n● Double Taxation Treaties – Treaty Shopping\, Treaty Benefits and new developments on inter-country tax treaties (e.g. Luxembourg\, Belgium\, Germany\, The Netherlands) taxation and Social Security\n● HR Policies and best practices that need to be established to steer\, monitor and enforce the residency policy.\n\nSPEAKERS:\n● David Springsteen\, Global Tax Service Leader\, CLA\n● Jan Bart Schober\, Tax Partner\, Employment & Benefits\, LOYENS & LOEFF\n● Sam Humphris\, Head of International Tax Policy\, AIG\n● Sascha Leske\, Partner\, NOERR [Moderator]\n\nREGISTER HERE\nProgram brought to you by EACCNY \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:WEBINAR - Fighting Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Across the Globe – US and EU Reform Legal Frameworks
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The United States Congress kicked off the new year by enacting the Anti-Money Laundering Act of 2020\, which became law only after both houses of Congress overrode then-President Trump’s veto of the proposed legislation. The Anti-Money Laundering Act is one of the most significant reforms since the USA Patriot Act of 2001 almost 20 years ago. The European Commission published an action plan in May 2020 to strengthen its Anti-Money Laundering legal framework around six key pillars. The Commission just released a new legislative proposal [to be confirmed on 12 May]. Both reforms will significantly change the shape of AML/CFT on both sides of the Atlantic.\n\nTopics to be addressed: \n\nUS Anti-Money Laundering Act of 2020:\n●  Newly created beneficial ownership registry for shell companies\n●  Newly enhanced AML whistleblower program\n●  Extension of U.S. subpoena power over foreign banks\n●  Newly created crimes\, collateral punishments\, and increased penalties for AML violations\n●  Application of AML regulations to virtual currency and to the antiquities market\n\nReform of the EU’s Anti-Money Laundering Framework:\n●  The EU approach on Beneficial Ownership\n●  A single EU rulebook\n●  EU-level supervision\n●  A stronger EU in the world\n\nUS-EU: potential for cooperation to strengthen AML/CFT at a global level?\n\nWho should attend:\nEmployees\, directors\, and lawyers who represent U.S. and non-U.S. financial institutions should attend this panel discussion\, as the new legislation affects financial institutions doing business in the United States\, as well as foreign financial institutions that use correspondence accounts located in the United States.  In addition\, those involved in establishing or using offshore shell companies to access the U.S. financial system should be aware of the Act’s plan to bring those companies into the reach of U.S. anti-money laundering laws.\n\nNOTE: This program will not be recorded. If you would like to hear what our experts have to say be sure to join us live at the event\, you won’t be able to access the information presented afterwards.\n\nSPEAKERS:\n●  Matthew Moses\, Partner\, ORRICK\n●  Amy Walsh\, Partner\, ORRICK [Moderator]\n●  Martin Merlin\, DG FISMA’s Director for Bank\, Insurance and Financial Crime\n●  Jasper Verhoog\, Partner\, AKD\n●  Danielle Camner Lindholm\, Director of National Security Policy\, House Financial Services Committee\n\n \n\nREGISTER\n\nThis program is brought to you by EACCNY\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
