SUMMARY:Webinar | Quarterly EU Economic Update - Sailing Through Calmer Seas?
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Please join us on May 22 for this program which is part of our recurring Quarterly EU Economic Updates.\n\nThe European Union has weathered the impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine much better than expected. The commodity price shock of 2022 is now a thing of the past\, as Europe has pivoted away from Russian imports of oil and natural gas with amazing speed. Not only has the EU avoided energy shortages\, but gas prices have now fallen below pre-war levels. This resilience has allowed the EU to shrug off fears of a recession and continue its economic expansion.\n\nGrowth in 2023 is likely to be stronger than expected just a few months ago. Historically strong labor markets\, improving consumer confidence\, and solid corporate profits are all working to keep the expansion on track\, even in the face of continuing headwinds from the war. Though inflation remains too high\, it is now coming down and should continue to ease in the months ahead. The EU is making massive investments in the green and digital transitions\, which will secure Europe’s energy independence\, support growth and innovation\, and promote a cleaner\, healthier environment.\n\nJoin us for an in-depth analysis of the European economy and the newly released Spring 2023 Economic Forecast. Our panel will discuss the recent economic data and public policy developments through mid-May and weigh the prospects for European and global growth against a range of potential risk factors.\n\nSPEAKERS:\n• Ben Carliner\, Senior Economist\, EU DELEGATION TO THE UNITED STATES\n• Balazs Parkanyi\, Counsellor for Economic and Financial Affairs\, EU DELEGATION TO THE UNITED STATES\n• Yvonne Bendinger-Rothschild\, Executive Director\, EACCNY [Moderator]\nOther speaker(s) will be announced soon.\n\nTIME:\n1:00 – 2:00 PM ET | 19:00 – 20:00 CET\n\nREGISTRATION FEE:\nEACC Members: Free\nEACC non-Members: Free\n\nREGISTER HERE\n\n \n\nProgram brought to you by EACCNY and organized in partnership with:\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Sustainability in Transportation - Bridging the Transatlantic Gap
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The U.S. Administration unveiled on 10 January 2023 the National Blueprint for Transportation Decarbonization\, a “landmark interagency framework of strategies and actions to remove all emissions from the transportation sector by 2050”.  This blueprint proposes a multimodal approach and lays out three key strategies to achieve decarbonization: increase convenience; improve efficiency; and transition to clean options. Building and relying on the historic investments and funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA)\, the blueprint sets ambitious but achievable targets and actions across all modes of transport for 2030\, 2040 and 2050.\n\nAs a major enabler of this strategy\, the IRA is perceived around the world as a crucial step in the global decarbonization efforts\, with massive opportunities for clean energy production and manufacturing in the United States.\n\nPlease join us for a high-level discussion on what type of policies are being implemented on both sides of the Atlantic to decarbonize transportation\, how they will play out in maritime and air transportation\, and on supply chains\, what opportunities exist for companies active in the areas of clean energy production and manufacturing\, and more.\n\nSamuel K. SUMMARY:Business in Flux - Perspectives from a Transatlantic Panel of C-Suite Women
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]At the end of 2022\, the IMF’s annual economic outlook for 2023 projected weak growth across the world in the face of elevated inflation\, higher interest rates\, reduced investment\, disruptions caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the lingering impact of COVID especially in China. The sharp downturn in growth was expected to be widespread\, with World Bank forecasts in 2023 revised down for 95% of advanced economies and nearly 70% of emerging market and developing economies. Although the economic indicators at the start of 2023 seem to be more favorable than expected\, any new adverse development—such as higher-than-expected inflation\, abrupt rises in interest rates to contain it\, a resurgence of the COVID-19 pandemic\, or escalating geopolitical tensions—could push the global economy into recession.\n\nIn this program\, a transatlantic panel of C-Suite women joined by Arancha González Laya\, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain and Dean of the School of International Affairs at Sciences Po in Paris\, will explore these and other challenges faced by global companies in this uncertain global geopolitical and economic environment.\n\nSPEAKERS\n\n Carol Cabezas\, President – Azamara Cruise Lines\n Arancha Gonzalez-Laya\, Dean of the Paris School of International Affairs at Sciences Po (Paris)\n Nadine Heubel\, former CEO Heinemann Americas; Senior Managing Director – Travel Retail North America & Global Wholesale – Newmark\n Daniella Silberstein\, Shareholder – Greenberg Traurig and Co-chair of GT’s Miami Women’s Initiative [Moderator]\n Monica Vazquez\, Executive Vice President & General Manager – Abanca USA\n\nTOPICS FOR DISCUSSION\n\n What are the economic perspectives for 2023 and is recession still a risk?\n How will business investment respond to recent changes in asset prices and the commitment of monetary policymakers around the world to slower growth?\n What are the perspectives for the transatlantic relationship in relation to business and trade ?\n What will the return of industrial policy in the U.S. (with the Inflation Reduction Act) mean for transatlantic investment and trade?\n What will be the longer-term ramifications for global fragmentation of the sanctions imposed on Russia and on Chinese semiconductors?\n Are there new roles for China\, India and in particular Latin America in this new economic environment?\n How are these trends playing out in places like Florida and Miami in their efforts to establish themselves as global business hubs?\n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Event schedule\n\n 8.30 am – 8.45 am:   Registration & Coffee\n 8.45 am – 9:45 am:   Program\n 9:45 am – 10.30 am: Networking\n\nRegistration Fee\n\n EACC Member: Free\n Guest with Promo Code: Free\n EACC Non-Member: $30\n Online attendance: Free\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_btn title=”IN PERSON ATTENDANCE” color=”blue” align=”center” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.eventbrite.com%2Fe%2Fbusiness-in-flux-perspectives-from-a-transatlantic-panel-of-c-suite-women-registration-525121952897″][vc_btn title=”ONLINE ATTENDANCE” color=”blue” align=”center” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fgtlaw.zoom.us%2Fmeeting%2Fregister%2FtJ0ldOysrz8jHtehbaaOw2u70Mw8bt2mjc3G”][/vc_column][vc_column][vc_column_text]Speaker Bios\n\nCarol Cabezas\n\nCarol Cabezas is the President of Azamara.\n\nShe is responsible for the full range of operations of the cruise line including Sales\, Marketing\, Revenue\, Finance\, Deployment and Shipboard Operations.  Carol’s dedication to the cruise industry with a career spanning over two decades stems from her passion for travel\, and cruise in particular.\n\nPrior to that\, Carol was Vice President of Investor Relations for Royal Caribbean Group\, managing relationships with the global investor and analyst community. SUMMARY:Webinar | Quarterly EU Economic Update - How Much Closer Will Europe Come Together to Stay Warm This Winter?
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Brought to you by EACCNY.\n\n\nThe Russian invasion of Ukraine\, as the world was just beginning to emerge from COVID\, has been a huge shock to the global economy and no region of the world has borne the brunt of this shock as much as Europe. The war has led millions of refugees to seek safety in the EU\, caused household food and energy bills to soar\, and threatened the competitiveness of entire industrial sectors as the costs of basic inputs have mounted.\n\nYet the shock of the attack on Ukraine has reinforced the lessons learned from the pandemic namely that coordinated\, collective action is the only effective response\, and Europe is stronger & more effective when it acts in unison. The war has thus been a galvanizing force that is bringing the EU closer together.\n\nIt is now clear that the green energy transition is not simply a matter of combating climate change\, but that making Europe independent from Russian fossil fuel imports is a strategic necessity. The EU and its Member States are already executing a host of policy measures\, some initiated during the Covid 19 Pandemic\, that will mobilize hundreds of billions of euros in new energy investments\, contain energy prices and bring inflation back under control\, and support freedom and democracy in Ukraine.\n\nWith winter fast approaching\, these efforts have already begun to bear fruit.\n• Natural gas reserves are over 90% full\, and Russian imports have fallen from 40% last year to under 10%.\n• Construction of new energy infrastructure is beginning\, households and businesses are receiving support to ease the pain of high energy bills.\n• The Ukrainian people are getting aid that will allow them to continue their stand against Russian aggression.\n\nBut these early successes have not resolved all of the challenges that lie ahead. The economic outlook is complex: the EU faces the prospect of a recession in 2023\, many member states may face fiscal constraints as they seek to provide for needed investments and social spending\, and risks are\, to say the least\, tilted to the downside.\n\nIn this fluid and challenging geo-political environment\, be sure to join us for a discussion of the EU Commission’s latest economic forecast and learn more about:\n• How the EU is simultaneously attempting to cushion Europe from the economic shocks it is facing\, including how Member States are implementing significant structural reforms to counteract these economic challenges.\n• How Europe is investing in new and innovative renewable energy technologies that could put European firms at the leading edge of green innovations.\n• The west’s resolve and resilience as it combats authoritarian threats to liberal democracy and the rule of law.\n\nSPEAKERS:\n• Ben Carliner\, Senior Economist\, EU DELEGATION TO THE UNITED STATES\n• Balazs Parkanyi\, Counsellor for Economic and Financial Affairs\, EU DELEGATION TO THE UNITED STATES\n• Debora Revoltella\, Director – Economics Department\, EUROPEAN INVESTMENT BANK\n• Yvonne Bendinger-Rothschild\, Executive Director\, EACCNY [Moderator]\n\nTIME:\n1:00 – 2:00 PM ET | 19:00 – 20:00 CET\n\nREGISTRATION FEE:\nEACC Members: Free\nEACC non-Members: Free\n\n\nREGISTER HERE\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
