SUMMARY:Webinar | Quarterly EU Economic Update - How Much Closer Will Europe Come Together to Stay Warm This Winter?
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Brought to you by EACCNY.\n\n\nThe Russian invasion of Ukraine\, as the world was just beginning to emerge from COVID\, has been a huge shock to the global economy and no region of the world has borne the brunt of this shock as much as Europe. The war has led millions of refugees to seek safety in the EU\, caused household food and energy bills to soar\, and threatened the competitiveness of entire industrial sectors as the costs of basic inputs have mounted.\n\nYet the shock of the attack on Ukraine has reinforced the lessons learned from the pandemic namely that coordinated\, collective action is the only effective response\, and Europe is stronger & more effective when it acts in unison. The war has thus been a galvanizing force that is bringing the EU closer together.\n\nIt is now clear that the green energy transition is not simply a matter of combating climate change\, but that making Europe independent from Russian fossil fuel imports is a strategic necessity. The EU and its Member States are already executing a host of policy measures\, some initiated during the Covid 19 Pandemic\, that will mobilize hundreds of billions of euros in new energy investments\, contain energy prices and bring inflation back under control\, and support freedom and democracy in Ukraine.\n\nWith winter fast approaching\, these efforts have already begun to bear fruit.\n• Natural gas reserves are over 90% full\, and Russian imports have fallen from 40% last year to under 10%.\n• Construction of new energy infrastructure is beginning\, households and businesses are receiving support to ease the pain of high energy bills.\n• The Ukrainian people are getting aid that will allow them to continue their stand against Russian aggression.\n\nBut these early successes have not resolved all of the challenges that lie ahead. The economic outlook is complex: the EU faces the prospect of a recession in 2023\, many member states may face fiscal constraints as they seek to provide for needed investments and social spending\, and risks are\, to say the least\, tilted to the downside.\n\nIn this fluid and challenging geo-political environment\, be sure to join us for a discussion of the EU Commission’s latest economic forecast and learn more about:\n• How the EU is simultaneously attempting to cushion Europe from the economic shocks it is facing\, including how Member States are implementing significant structural reforms to counteract these economic challenges.\n• How Europe is investing in new and innovative renewable energy technologies that could put European firms at the leading edge of green innovations.\n• The west’s resolve and resilience as it combats authoritarian threats to liberal democracy and the rule of law.\n\nSPEAKERS:\n• Ben Carliner\, Senior Economist\, EU DELEGATION TO THE UNITED STATES\n• Balazs Parkanyi\, Counsellor for Economic and Financial Affairs\, EU DELEGATION TO THE UNITED STATES\n• Debora Revoltella\, Director – Economics Department\, EUROPEAN INVESTMENT BANK\n• Yvonne Bendinger-Rothschild\, Executive Director\, EACCNY [Moderator]\n\nTIME:\n1:00 – 2:00 PM ET | 19:00 – 20:00 CET\n\nREGISTRATION FEE:\nEACC Members: Free\nEACC non-Members: Free\n\n\nREGISTER HERE\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Webinar | AI Data Analysis and the Changing Tax Landscape in Europe & the U.S.
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Brought to you by EACCNY and EACC Texas.\n\nComplying with tax obligations and assessing tax liabilities can be a time-consuming task\, whether for companies doing business in multiple jurisdictions with different tax processes and requirements\, for SMEs which may have limited resources or for individuals with complex tax affairs. The increasing use of data and data analytics\, as well as the digitalization of tax administration over the last decade\, has helped in reducing some of these burdens as well as improving the effectiveness and efficiency of tax administration.\n\nA defining feature of modern tax administration is now the massive amount of data that has become available to tax administrations\, including data required by law. This carries costs associated with the reporting and storage of data\, risks for data privacy and data protection\, as well as benefits in the assessment of tax liabilities\, identification of non-compliance and fraud and the generation of new insights and applications.\n\nAs the volume of data increases\, so has the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning become more prevalent\, assisting tax professionals and tax administrations in their respective roles\, uncovering patterns in mounds of data that can be missed by humans and informing decision-making in multiple areas.\n\nAs digital transformation takes place across society\, potentially changing the nature of tax administration\, there are interesting questions as to how the role of AI and data may change in the taxation arena. Join our panel of experts for a discussion that will address these interesting issues.\n\nAGENDA:\nSetting the stage – big data and AI\nThere is more tax data than ever and the tax databases of authorities and tax preparers are both enormous and generally well-validated.\n● What are the benefits/challenges of this wealth of data?\n● What are the use cases for AI now and in the near future in the field of taxation\, including across borders.\n\nRegulatory Aspects – what concerns does AI and Big Data raise?\nData Governance:\n● How to protect privacy and confidentiality?\n● How are tax authorities managing increased amounts of data?\n● How to decide when data can be shared and with whom?\n\nGovernance of AI processes:\n● How is the use of AI best governed?\n● Decision-making by AI – what are the limits?\n● Challenges presented by the use of AI in tax analysis from a regulatory aspect\n\nLook into the Crystal Ball – what might we expect in 10 years’ time?\n● Trend towards real time taxation – does this inevitably mean more data flows?\n● Can more seamless taxation be achieved by moving taxation processes into taxpayers’ natural systems rather than bringing data into tax administration systems?\n● What type of technology is already available and which need to be developed to move to more seamless taxation?\n● How might the role of AI in taxation develop?\n\nSPEAKERS:\n● Ivan Roussev\, Data Scientist\, EY [moderator]\n● Peter Green\, Head of Forum on Tax Administration Secretariat\, OECD\n● Quentin Parrinello\, Senior Policy Officer – Tax Justice and Inequalities\, OXFAM FRANCE\n● Frank Sangers\, Chief Financial Officer\, CITIZENM HOTELS\n\nTIME:\n10:00 – 11:00 AM EDT | 16:00h – 17:00h CET\n\nREGISTRATION FEE:\nEACC Members: Free\nEACC non-Members: Free\n\nREGISTER HERE\n\nIt is a joint webinar organized by EACC New York and EACC Texas.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Webinar | Quarterly EU Economic Update: Forged in Crisis – How the War in Ukraine May Strengthen the European Union & the Transatlantic Relationship
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Program brought to you by EACC New York.\n\nThe Russian invasion of Ukraine has unleashed a humanitarian crisis and a major macro-economic shock that fundamentally changes the global economic outlook. The EU is directly exposed to spillovers from the conflict\, but the impact will be more pronounced for countries on its eastern border. Surging commodity prices\, disrupted supply chains\, and unprecedented trade and financial sanctions will all weigh on growth and push inflation higher in the near-term.\n\nWith that said\, key economic indicators show that the European economic expansion overall should remain strong enough to weather these war-related disruptions and continue its recovery. The outlook is clouded by significant uncertainties regarding the outcome of the war in Ukraine\, the impacts of economic sanctions on Russia\, and possible responses from Russia and other major geopolitical actors. It is clear that the war presents many challenges for the EU\, especially over the medium-term\, and it drives home the need to accelerate the energy transition. Securing clean\, reliable sources of energy are now not simply an environmental priority\, but a matter of geopolitical security for Europe.\n\nIt is often said that Europe will be forged in crises but with challenges come opportunity. The continent is responding with solidarity\, strengthening and deepening the European Union while providing aid to Ukraine. Forceful policy actions are reinforcing a broad-based economic recovery by supporting business and household incomes\, encouraging investment\, and promoting the green and digital transitions.\n\nJoin us for an in-depth discussion of the challenges and opportunities facing the European economy. Our panel will begin with an update on the European Commission’s newly released Spring 2022 Economic Forecast\, the first to factor in the war in Ukraine and associated sanctions on Russia.\n\nWe will then discuss the major challenges and opportunities facing Europe\, covering a variety of possible scenarios and key questions facing policy makers:\n\n● What is the inflation outlook and how should policy makers respond?\n● How should the EU adjust its fiscal stance to deal with the impact of the war?\n● What policy tools are available to ease the uneven impact of the war and refugee inflow on different EU member states?\n● How are businesses likely to adapt their supply chains?\n● What are the main EU policy developments in the energy sector?\n● What does the war mean for the broader global economic and financial architecture that has been in place since World War Two?\n\nSPEAKERS:\n● Balazs Parkanyi\, Counsellor for Economic and Financial Affairs\, EU DELEGATION TO THE UNITED STATES\n● Ben Carliner\, Senior Economist\, EU DELEGATION TO THE UNITED STATES\n● Yvonne Bendinger-Rothschild\, Executive Director\, EACCNY [Moderator]\n\nTIME:\n1:00 – 2:00 PM EDT | 19:00h – 20:00h CET\n\nREGISTRATION FEE:\nEACCFL Members: Free\nEACCFL non-Members: Free\n\nREGISTER HERE\n\nThis Webinar is funded by the European Union\n\n \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:WEBINAR - Quarterly EU Economic Update: A Rocky Road to Recovery – Can the Recovery & Resilience Fund be the game changer the EU economy needs?
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]\n\n\nThere is a lot of momentum behind the recovery and we should see some solid growth numbers for the EU economies over the remainder of the year and into 2022. High vaccination rates and cautious public health policies are now paying growth dividends across the EU. With that said\, the pace of the recovery is moderating as supply shortages and logistical bottlenecks weigh on output. Inventories are very low and many manufacturers simply can’t get the supplies they need. On the labor market side\, it has been challenging to fill open positions due to skills mismatches.\n\nIn other words\, short-term demand policy seems to have worked well both in Europe and the US. Savings rates are high and investment is growing. But Covid-related supply constraints are holding back growth and look set to last longer than expected. Policy makers on both sides of the Atlantic now need to focus on the medium- to long-term. In this vein\, the EU’s Recovery and Resilience Facility [RRF] will finance a lot of new investment in green and digital technologies that will boost growth and productivity further while ‘future-proofing’ the economic structure by linking RRF funds to structural reform. RRF roll-out has already started and policy makers as well as the private sector are optimistic\, especially about the speed of the green and digital transitions.\n\nThe EU Commission still expects supply shortages to be temporary\, but in the meantime\, they are feeding into higher headline inflation\, and there is uncertainty over how to effectively address these bottlenecks in the short term. Rising energy prices are also causing a headache for policy makers in Europe\, where many countries depend on imported gas. This raises important strategic questions\, including whether green investments will smooth out or aggravate tensions in the energy market.\n\nJoin us for an in-depth analysis of the European economy and the newly released autumn 2021 Economic Forecast. Our panel will discuss the recent economic data and public policy developments through mid-October and weighs the prospects for European and global growth against a range of potential risks.\n\nSPEAKERS:\n● Balazs Parkanyi\, Counsellor for Economic and Financial Affairs\, EU DELEGATION TO THE UNITED STATES\n● Ben Carliner\, Senior Economist\, EU DELEGATION TO THE UNITED STATES\n● Yvonne Bendinger-Rothschild\, Executive Director\, EACCNY [Moderator]\n\nTIME:\nWednesday\, November 17th\, 2021\n1:00 PM – 2:00 PM EDT / 19:00 h – 20:00 h CET\n\nREGISTRATION FEE:\nEACC Members: Free\nEACC Friends: Free\n\nREGISTER HERE\n\nThis webinar is funded by the European Union.\n\n\n\n\n \n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
