SUMMARY:Fireside Chat I Tech Policy in the EU and US under Trump 2.0 - Regulatory Challenges & Business Opportunities for the Industry
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]REGISTRATIONS ARE CLOSED\n\nOn January 20\, 2025\, President Donald Trump issued the “America First Trade Policy” memorandum\, outlining a comprehensive strategy to prioritize American economic and national security interests – including in the tech industry -and representing a radical shift from policies under the Biden Administration.\n\nYet\, continued collaboration between the E.U. and the U.S. is more important than ever due to a combination of competition from non-market economies and a lack of capacity in three key geo-strategic areas: telecommunications\, semiconductor manufacturing\, and critical minerals and raw materials. These areas are the basic building blocks of many of the products and services the United States and EU nations use across a variety of sectors\, including for the operation of critical infrastructure\, the manufacturing of medical devices\, and numerous military applications.\nUS Big Tech is ready for Trump 2.0. But what about the E.U.? And what about US Medium-Sized Tech? \nJoin us on February 13 with guest-speaker Johannes Bahrke\, Digital Counselor at the EU Delegation to the United States\, in conversation with tech C-Suite Executives for an open discussion about challenges and opportunities for the tech industry in Florida and on both sides of the Atlantic under the new Trump Administration.\n\nAnd after the program\, join us for a Networking Reception to celebrate EACC Florida’s 5th Anniversary.\n\nTOPICS FOR DISCUSSION\n\n EU-U.S. relations\, China and “Tech Sovereignty” – what is the current landscape\, how is it being perceived and what does it really mean in an inter-connected world?\n Why are supply chain resilience\, standard-setting in new technologies\, and ethical considerations in tech deployment so crucial?\n How could the imposition of tariffs disrupt supply chains\, increase costs for tech companies\, and influence the availability and pricing of technology products in both the EU and the US?\n What is the status of the EU AI Act\, the Digital Markets Act and Digital Services Act and how will they play out in this new transatlantic environment?\n What was the role for the EU-US Technology & Trade Council established under the Biden Presidency. How was the tech industry involved and will it be replaced? To do what?\n How can the E.U. bridge differing transatlantic views to ensure collaboration in areas such as artificial intelligence\, 5G\, and cybersecurity?\n What are the challenges and opportunities in handling transatlantic data flows and privacy concerns in the Trump 2.0 world?\n\nSPEAKERS\n\n Johannes BAHRKE\, Digital Counselor – EU Delegation to the United States\n Dr. Victor LOZINSKI\, Co-founder and Chairman of the Board – LeverX\n Alan SUTIN\, Senior Chair\, Global Intellectual Property & Technology Group – Greenberg Traurig\, and President – EACC Florida [Moderator]\n\nEVENT SCHEDULE\n\n3.00 PM – 3.30 PM:     Arrivals & Registration\n3.30 PM – 4.45 PM:     Program\n5.00 PM – 7.00P PM:  EACC Florida Anniversary Reception\n\nLOCATION\n\nGreenberg Traurig\n333 SE 2nd Avenue – Suite 4400\nMiami\, FL 33131\n\nREGISTRATION FEE\n\nEACC Member:                 Free\nGuest with Promo Code: Free\nEACC Non-Member:       $30\n\n \n\nSPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES\n\nJohanes BAHRKE is Counsellor for Digital Policy at the EU Delegation to the United States in Washington DC since August 2024. Prior to his posting\, he was European Commission Coordinating Spokesperson for digital policy\, research and innovation in Brussels. He accompanied key EU digital and tech regulations such as Digital Services Act\, the Digital Markets Act\, the Artificial Intelligence Act\, the EU Chips Act and the new data framework from proposal to implementation. Before joining the EU Institutions in 2014\, Johannes worked as editor and reporter for ZDF\, German national TV. Johannes studied media and communications in Siegen\, Germany\, and London\, UK\, and holds an MA in European political studies from the College of Europe in Bruges\, Belgium.\n\n \n\nDr. Victor LOZINSKI\, the Co-founder and Chairman of the Board at LeverX\, brings a wealth of expertise in enterprise applications and software engineering coupled with an unwavering commitment to technological excellence. LeverX\, founded by Dr. Lozinski in April 2003 in his Silicon Valley apartment\, has since evolved into a global Systems Integrator. LeverX has offices in twelve countries\, boasting a workforce of over 1700 professionals spread across four continents. The broader wholesale trade\, transportation\, and logistics industry accounts for over 67\,000+ establishments and employs more than half a million individuals across the state. Evolving geopolitics\, recurring supply chain disruptions\, the “greening” of the industry and increasing regulatory requirements are impacting global trade and it is expected that trade will become less global and more regionalized with a renewed focus on the Transatlantic Corridor – North America\, Latin America and Europe.\n\nWhile there are a number of entities and professional groups – federal\, State and local – that serve these industries and their professionals to advance their interests\, few if any have a transatlantic focus or specifically serve European companies and professionals from these industries present in Florida. And whereas specific know-how and expertise represent a competitive advantage for any company\, the issues confronted by the sector are the same for all.\n\nEACC Florida’s Task Force is loosely inspired from a similar TF run by EACC Auvergne-Rhone-Alps: https://eacc-ra.com/task-forces/.\n\nMission: to bring together active professionals who understand the benefits of sharing best practices across industries\, ensuring that there is no silo thinking.\n\nRole: to organize meetings on a regular basis to address strategic issues\, share findings and best practices and make mutual recommendations for improvement in a given sector of activity. Chatham House rules or any other confidentiality rule might be used to allow for open exchange during the meetings.\n\nTask Force Members: representatives of EACC Florida Member companies with interests in the transportation/logistics industry invited to serve on the Task Force.\n\nIf you wish to receive further details about the Task Force\, please contact Christina Sleszynska at csleszynska@eaccfl.com\n\n \nMany thanks to Task Force Members Clasquin USA\, Pernod Ricard\, RAF Solutions and RSM US for their support! \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” images=”35959\,36190\,35975\,35968″ css=””][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Whereas the snap parliamentary elections in France resulted in further far-right advances\, both the Left and President’s Macron’s centrist coalition made a surprise come-back. This further complicates the French President’s capacity to govern with wide implications for European Union policies. DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]PROGRAM BROUGHT TO YOU BY EACCNY\n\nIn the aftermath of the Covid Pandemic and now the War in Ukraine\, the EU and the United States are eager to work together and leverage their innovative ecosystems and to build up their position in the semiconductor ecosystem.\n\nLeaders from the EU and the U.S. collaborate via the specially created Trade & Technology Council to find effective ways to and realign on their strengths. As the European Commission has noted\, maintaining a reliable global market for European products and ensuring security of supply “will require building balanced semiconductor partnerships with like-minded countries…[with the aim of setting] out cooperative frameworks on initiatives of mutual interest and seek[ing] a commitment to ensure continuity of supply in times of crisis.”\n\nThe United States has also acknowledged the importance of formalizing cooperation with allies in fostering secure supply chains. It allocated $500 million over five years for the establishment of a Multilateral Semiconductors Security Fund\, which includes provisions for developing harmonized export controls\, intellectual property rights\, and foreign direct investment screening.\n\nOur panel will explore how to put these ambitious plans into action and what it will take –on the ground- to execute against this strategic realignment.\n\nIssues to be discussed include:\n• Examining European and US ambition and the realities in the global semiconductor market place – are we realistic or overly optimistic\n• Strategies on both sides of the Atlantic to enhance innovation\, RD&I\n• The subsidy race – analyzing European and American approaches\n• US-China-Taiwan chips tension: de-risking from China – how to proceed\n• Efficacy of export controls\n• Over-reliance on Taiwan or underdeveloped partnership?\n• Structures for ongoing transatlantic cooperation\n• How can the EU and the United States collaborate effectively to create a viable semiconductor ecosystem\n\nSPEAKERS:\n• Lucinda Creighton\, CEO\, VULCAN CONSULTING [Moderator]\n• Avi Messica\, CEO & Co-Founder\, NEOLOGIC\n• Lucilla Sioli\, Director for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Industry\, EUROPEAN COMMISSION – DG CONNECT\n• Adam Schafer\, Head of Supply Chain Strategy –  CHIPS Program Office\, U.S. DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE\n\nREGISTER HERE\n\nREGISTRATION FEE:\nEACC Members: Free\nEACC non-Members: Free[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
