“The best revenge is massive success” (Franck Sinatra)
Max is 17. He was born in Miami Beach on May 1st 2005. His father is from Torion in N. Mexico and his mother from Antwerp in Belgium. His parents met in Mexico as young professionals, and after living there for several years, they moved to Miami in 2000. Max has no siblings but has many relatives including an impressive 20 or so cousins on his mother’s side. He is trilingual, speaking English, Dutch, and Spanish fluently, and he regularly travels to Belgium and Mexico to visit with family and friends. His favorite foods are waffles and foods at the “frituur” in Belgium, and in Mexico, tamales and his grand-mother’s very special “sopa de letras”, based off of tomato soup.

Max is a rising Senior at Miami Country Day School (MCDS) in Miami Shores. He is a straight A student and has taken almost 10 AP classes as an underclassman and junior. His preferred subjects are math and sciences. He will soon start applying to colleges and hopes to be admitted to one of the Ivy League schools to study mechanical or industrial engineering.

Max has many interests. He has been on his school’s varsity tennis team since 6th grade, representing his school as the #1 player for MCDS for most years. He does some online science tutoring for students in Belize, volunteers in the Indigenous Advocates Association and – as a Freshman - helped develop a Finance Club at his high-school as a founding member.
Another interesting aspect of Max’s life is that he learned how to play chess with Grandmaster Ron Henley, Max helped build the Chess Club at his school with the active support and participation of the Grandmaster himself, travelling to take part in a state-wide competition in Orlando.
