50 Tech Companies from Belgium on Inspirational Mission to Miami

December 13-15, 2023 I Miami

In December 2023, Prime Minister of Belgium Alexander de Croo will be leading an “inspirational mission” to Atlanta and Miami titled: “The Future of Digital: Unlocking the Web3 Route from Atlanta to Miami”. Delegates will discover all about the next evolution of the Internet and its related digital technologies (AI, VR, cybersecurity, blockchain, IoT, quantum computing, etc.) that will disrupt business in the years to come.


The mission is organized by AGORIA, the Belgian Tech Federation, with some 50 companies – including Belgian house-hold names – participating.


The delegation will be in Miami from December 13 to December 15, 2023 and we are thrilled that two EACC Florida Members – Greenberg Traurig and Miami Dade College – will be hosting events for the delegation.

European Rail Companies to Visit Miami

October 12, 2023 I Miami

On October 12, EACC Florida will host a group of companies and clusters from across Europe with business in the rail industry. Countries represented include Italy, Spain, Germany, Sweden, Turkey and the UK.


The purpose of the visit is to learn about the rail landscape in S. Florida, public procurement opportunities and establishing operations in the US/Florida. Before travelling to Miami, the group will be attending the APTA Expo in Orlando.

Irish Consulate General in Miami

Officially Inaugurated by The Taoiseach of Ireland Leo Varadkar

The Taoiseach (aka Prime Minister) of Ireland Leo Varadkar (pictured above) was in Miami on September 21st to officially inaugurate the Consulate General of Ireland, Ireland's first in Florida. The ceremony was orchestrated by Consul General Sarah Kavanagh and her team and held at The Wolfsonian–FIU in Miami Beach.


It was well attended by representatives of Miami's diplomatic corps, academia, local and State authorities as well as representatives of Florida's Irish community.

The Taoiseach, Irish Ambassador to the US, Geraldine Byrne Nason, Chairman Oliver G. Gilbert, III and Consul General Sarah Kavanagh. at the inauguration of the Geneva Window.

This was the Prime Minister's second visit to Florida. He travelled to Miami in the margins of the UN General Assembly in New York and was accompanied by Irish Ambassador to the US, Geraldine Byrne Nason.


Following the ceremony, the Taoiseach inaugurated an exhibition featuring the Geneva Window (pictured above), one of Irish artist Harry Clarke’s finest works, from its commissioning in 1926 by the Irish Free State as a gift to the League of Nations’ International Labor Building in Geneva to its permanent home at The Wolfsonian–FIU in Miami Beach.

EACC Florida Executive Director Addresses Two Delegations from Europe

In September. Christina Sleszynska represented EACC Florida at two Briefing Sessions hosted by the Miami Dade County International Trade Consortium (ITC). The first was for young government officials from Italy, Spain, Finland, San Marino and Montenegro brought to Miami by Global Ties as part of a U.S. Foreign Policy Program.


The second was for the Marshall Memorial Fellowship Cohort 2023 which included young thought leaders and entrepreneurs from Croatia, Greece, Norway, Poland and The Netherlands.


C. Sleszynska offered insights on transatlantic trade, and investment relations and opportunities between Europe, North America and Latin America. Other speakers included representatives from The Beacon Council, the Global Chamber Miami, PortMiami, the Office of Foreign Missions, Miami Dade College, Diaz Trade Law, the US Department of Commerce as well as TC Board Member and Mayor of the City of West Miami, Eric Diaz-Padron.

EU I The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) Enters into Application. CBAM is the EU's landmark tool to fight carbon leakage. In its transitional phase, CBAM will only apply to imports of cement, iron and steel, aluminium, fertilisers, electricity and hydrogen. Read more.


EU I Commission Proposes Steps to Make it Easier for Europeans to Live, Work and Travel Abroad. The proposal lays out actions to make access to social security services quicker and simpler across borders by making full use of digital tools, reducing administrative burden for citizens and business. EU-US I Next EU US Summit to be held in Washington DC. The Summit will take place on October 20th in Washington, D.C. European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will meet with U.S. President Joe Biden to review the strong cooperation between the U.S. and EU, including our shared commitment to support Ukraine as it defends its sovereignty and to impose costs on Russia for its aggression. US I Treasury and IRS Issue New Proposed Regulations on Digital Assets. The proposed rules regard the sales or exchanges of digital assets, including cryptocurrency. The Proposed Regulations relate to both information reporting requirements and the determination of amount realized, basis, and backup withholding. Read more.


EIB I Global Compliance Leaders Meet to Strengthen ethical Private Sector Financing. Financing and compliance experts from more than 20 multilateral development banks from Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe met in Luxembourg to share best practice and enhance understanding of how to strengthen ethical private sector financing. IRS Establishes New Special Work Unit to Concentrate on Large Partnerships as Part of its New Enforcement Effort Targeting High-Income Taxpayers. The IRS is aware that some high-income taxpayers are using complex passthrough structures to avoid paying income tax, and the Global High Wealth team will be closely aligned with this new unit. Passthrough entities include partnerships, limited liability companies, and S corporations. Read more.
