SUCCESS for the Inaugural Meeting of EACC Florida’s New Task Force
Transportation, Logistics & Customs
| |
|
On August 21, 2024, EACC Florida held the Inaugural Meeting of its new Task Force Transportation, Logistics and Customs. The event, hosted by EACC Florida Member CLASQUIN USA at their new offices in Doral, brought together a group of experts and industry leaders to discuss critical best practices for the safe and compliant transport of goods, both maritime and beyond.
After a few words of introduction by EACC Florida Executive Director Christina Sleszynska and EACC Florida Vice-President Scott Bettridge (Cozen O'Connor), the interactive discussion, led by Kurt Lunkenheimer, a former federal prosecutor and part of Cozen O’Connor‘s team in Miami, delved into key insights for manufacturers, exporters, freight forwarders, and logistics companies. The topic of this first event was “Know Your Cargo: Reinforcing Best Practices to Ensure the Safe and Compliant Transport of Goods in Maritime and Other Forms of Transportation”. Issues discussed included Know Your Customer and Know Your Cargo, due diligence in researching sellers, buyers and intermediaries, payments for goods, remaining on top of new rules such as slave labor, and more.
Attended by EACC Florida Members and a few invited Friends, this first event reached its stated objective: to start developing a space with a transatlantic focus where companies and professionals from this industry can exchange about specific issues at expert level and share best practices.
The next meeting will be held on Wednesday November 13. The Task Force will now get back to work and start planning the next event! Stay tuned!

2024 is shaping up to be a year of political change across Europe and possibly in the United States with deep implications on transatlantic trade policy.
The European Parliament elections in June saw far-right parties make gains, although centrist parties will retain their parliamentary majority. Whereas the snap parliamentary elections in France resulted in further far-right advances, both the Left and President’s Macron’s centrist coalition made a surprise come-back. This further complicates the French President’s capacity to govern with wide implications for European Union policies. In London, the general election on July 4 produced a substantial majority for the Labour Party after 14 years of conservative rule. And in the United States, trade policy will be among the biggest issues to watch depending on which candidate wins the presidential election.
This program will consider the possible impact of these elections on transatlantic trade with a special focus on France, the UK, the EU and the US.
TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION
- Economic outlook in Europe and the US
- How will the new political majorities in place in the EU, France and the UK impact transatlantic trade policy?
- What would their impact be on the commercial regulatory environment, including on US businesses already operating in Europe or considering investing there?
- What changes can we expect in the UK’s trade policy with the US in general and US States in particular?
- What is the UK-Florida Memorandum of Understanding and how is it being implemented? What could be the implications of a Trump or Harris Presidency on transatlantic trade and business?
SPEAKERS
- Rufus Drabble, British Consul General in Miami
- Everett Eissenstat, Partner - Squire Patton Boggs
- Michaelangelo Margherita, Head of Trade, Agriculture and Digital Economy - Delegation of the EU to the U.S
- Sylvain Perret, Founder - Objectif USA

Olivia Zukowski
A Polish American Aspiring Young Lawyer
| |
Olivia Zukowski is 24. She was born in June 2000 in Białystok in Eastern Poland close to the Russian border. Her parents escaped Communist Poland in the 1980s, moved to the United States and became US citizens. They returned to their homeland after the Fall of the Berlin Wall in 1998 but decided to move back when their daughter was 4 years old. She has no siblings.
Olivia grew up on Long Island as a slightly nerdy girl. She excelled in school especially in STEM subjects, played beach volleyball, went to Polish school on Saturdays and wanted to become a doctor.
| |
|
She has dual US-Polish citizenship, is almost fluent in Polish, speaks some French, has traveled to different countries in Europe and returns to Poland from time to time to visit with family and friends. And eat her favorite Polish dish: pierogis.
She loves languages, her diverse environment, and being outdoors, choosing to go to college at the University of Miami where she got a BA in Ecosystem Science and Policy and Political Science and an MA in Public Administration. She is now at the UM School of Law and particularly enjoys working on issues at the intersection of policy and law. She lives in Brickell, a neighborhood she loves.
She hopes to pass the Florida Bar in the summer of 2025 and will move to Tampa, near where her parents now live, with a job as Business Litigation Associate at Carlton Fields waiting for her.
