Inaugural Meeting

EACC Florida Task Force

Transportation, Logistics & Customs

21 August 2024 I 11.30 AM - 2.00 PM I Doral

EACC Florida Members and Invited Guests Only.

Join us for the Inaugural Meeting of EACC Florida’s Task Force Transportation, Logistics & Customs.

If you are an active professional in these industries and understand the benefits of sharing best practices across industries ensuring that there is no silo thinking, this event is for you!

While there are entities and professional groups – federal, State and local – that serve the transportation, logistics & customs industries and their professionals to advance their interests, few if any have a transatlantic focus or specifically serve European companies and professionals from these industries present in Florida. And whereas specific know-how and expertise represent a competitive advantage for any company, the issues confronted by the sector are the same for all.

The topic of the first Task Force event is: Know Your Cargo: Reinforcing Best Practices to Ensure the Safe and Compliant Transport of Goods in Maritime and Other Forms of Transportation

The interactive discussion will be facilitated by a former federal prosecutor and will address best practices for companies involved in the transportation of goods abroad, including but not limited to manufacturers, exporters/re-exporters, shipping companies, carriers and freight forwarders. These will include best practices in KYC – both Know Your Customer and Know Your Cargo, due diligence in researching sellers, buyers and intermediaries, and building a network of similarly situated companies in order to share information, among other topics.

Chatham House rules or any other confidentiality rule might apply to allow for open exchange during the meeting.

Elections 2024 – EU, France, UK, USA

Implications for Transatlantic Business and Trade

Tuesday September 17 I 9.00AM - 11.00AM I Kaufman Rossin, Miami

2024 is shaping up to be a year of political change across Europe and possibly in the United States with deep implications on transatlantic trade policy.

The European Parliament elections in June saw far-right parties make gains, although centrist parties will retain their parliamentary majority. Whereas the snap parliamentary elections in France resulted in further far-right advances, both the Left and President’s Macron’s centrist coalition made a surprise come-back. This further complicates the French President’s capacity to govern with wide implications for European Union policies. In London, the general election on July 4 produced a substantial majority for the Labour Party after 14 years of conservative rule. And in the United States, trade policy will be among the biggest issues to watch depending on which candidate wins the presidential election.

This program will consider the possible impact of these elections on transatlantic trade with a special focus on France, the UK, the EU and the US.

TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION

  • Economic outlook in Europe and the US
  • How will the new political majorities in place in the EU, France and the UK impact transatlantic trade policy?
  • What would their impact be on the commercial regulatory environment, including on US businesses already operating in Europe or considering investing there?
  • What changes can we expect in the UK’s trade policy with the US in general and US States in particular?
  • What is the UK-Florida Memorandum of Understanding and how is it being implemented? What could be the implications of a Trump or Harris Presidency on transatlantic trade and business?

SPEAKERS

  • Rufus Drabble, British Consul General in Miami
  • Michaelangelo Margherita, Head of Trade, Agriculture and Digital Economy - Delegation of the EU to the U.S
  • Sylvain Perret, Founder - Objectif USA
  • Peter Stratos, Principal - Kaufman Rossin [Moderator]

Bryan Soudrain

A Young Man from France with a Passion for Community Leadership, Entrepreneurship and Florida

Bryan turned 20 in June 2024. He was born and lived in Gérardmer, in eastern France, until he moved to the United States at age 10. Bryan is perfectly bi-lingual English and French and returns to France on a regular basis to visit with family. Flammekueche (a specialty from Alsace) and tartiflette (a dish from Savoy in the French Alps) are his favorite go-to dishes when going back.

Bryan went to high school at Flagler Palm Coast High School in Flagler County where he completed the International Baccalaureate program (IAB) and graduated suma cum laude. He loved soccer and track but his true passion lied elsewhere.

When still a Sophomore, he wanted to do an internship in a law firm but didn’t know who to reach out to. One conversation led to another and at age 16, with the support of the Palm Coast-Flagler Regional Chamber, he founded the Junior Chamber of Commerce Florida (JCC Florida), a not-for-profit dedicated to enhancing students' futures and developing a robust talent pipeline by establishing connections between the education and professional worlds.

Bryan’s initial interest in the field of law was triggered by his international upbringing and continues being guided by a profound desire to effect positive change in his community and beyond. In 2022, he was admitted to Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale with a full scholarship and is studying towards a BS in Law. He plans to go to Law School and focus on international and corporate law.
