EACC Florida Welcomes the European Innovation Council & 20 European MedTech Companies with "Why Florida?" Program and Reception
|
|
On July 26, EACC Florida and the European Innovation Council (EIC) welcomed a business delegation of 20 European SMEs, start-ups and scale-ups from the MedTech industry with a "Why Florida" program followed by a Welcoming Reception. These SMEs, start-ups and scale-ups are some of the leading MedTech innovators in Europe and were selected by the EIC to attend the Florida International Medical Expo (FIME) under the EU Pavilion as part of the EIC's Overseas Trade Fair Program 2.0. Some were in the US for the first time.
The reception which followed the program was an opportunity for EACC Florida Members, local authorities and invited guests to interact with the EIC and the European companies in attendance.

The European Innovation Council is a Brussels-based EU agency and Europe’s Flagship Innovation Program. It was represented in Miami by Dr. Grzegorz Ambroziewicz, EIC Deputy Head of Unit and Oana Popescu, EIC Communications & Community Coordinator.

EU - Political Agreement to Reduce Natural Gas Demand by 15% this Winter. EU Member States reached a political agreement on a voluntary reduction of natural gas demand by 15% this winter. The Council regulation also foresees the possibility to trigger a ‘Union alert’ on security of supply, in which case the gas demand reduction would become mandatory. Read more.
EU - New Innovation Agenda Proposed. The proposals will will help Europe to develop new technologies to address the most pressing societal challenges, and to bring them on the market. The New European Innovation Agenda is designed to position Europe as a leading player on the global innovation scene. Read more.
EU - ESMA and EBA Guidelines to Harmonise the Supervisory Review and Evaluation Process of Investment Firms. The final SREP Guidelines have been developed jointly with the EBA. They set out the common process and criteria for the assessment of the main SREP elements, including business model; governance arrangements and firm-wide controls; risks to capital and capital adequacy; and liquidity risk and liquidity adequacy. EU - €1.2 Billion Investment into Defense Industrial Cooperation Projects Announced. The call for funding will support high-end defence capability projects such as the next generation of fighter aircrafts, tanks and ships, as well as critical defence technologies such as military cloud, Artificial Intelligence, semiconductors, space, cyber or medical counter-measures. It will also spearhead disruptive technologies, notably in quantum technologies and new materials and tap into promising SMEs and start-ups. Read more.

U.S.– EU Space Dialogue. Officials from the United States and the European Union met for the 11th U.S.-EU Space Dialogue in Washington, D.C. to discuss cooperation on Earth observation and disaster response, global navigation satellite systems, spaceflight safety and space situational awareness, and opportunities for trans-Atlantic cooperation to ensure the security and long-term sustainability of outer space activities. EU to Open San Francisco Office. The European Commission has announced plans to open a San Francisco office on Sept. 1 that will liaise with Silicon Valley companies affected by EU tech regulation. Read more.
U.S. Fed - Crypto-Assets and Decentralized Finance through a Financial Stability Lens. Recent volatility has exposed serious vulnerabilities in the crypto financial system.1 While touted as a fundamental break from traditional finance, the crypto financial system turns out to be susceptible to the same risks that are all too familiar from traditional finance, such as leverage, settlement, opacity, and maturity and liquidity transformation. IMF - Shifting Global Winds Pose Challenges to Latin America. The economies of Latin America and the Caribbean have continued their strong post-pandemic rebound, but the winds are shifting as global financial conditions are tightening and commodity prices are reversing their upward trend, while inflationary pressures persist. OECD - International Tax Reform. Implem-entation of the international tax reform agreement to ensure multinational enterprises pay a fair share of tax wherever they operate is progressing, according to an OECD report delivered to G20 finance ministers and central bank governors. Read more.

Expansion of Premium Processing for Certain Previously Filed EB-1 and EB-2 I-140 Petitions Continues. The first phase of the program allowed petitioners to upgrade previously filed I-140 petitions in the EB-1 category for multinational managers and executives, which were filed with USCIS prior to January 1, 2021, to premium processing. The second phase of this new program was implemented on July 1, 2022, and allows petitioners to file I-907 premium processing requests for I-140 petitions filed prior to March 1, 2021, in the EB-1 category for multinational managers and executives or I-140 petitions filed prior to June 1, 2021, in the EB-2 category for members of the professions holding an advanced degree or exceptional ability petitions seeking a national interest waiver (NIW). A Side-by-Side Comparison of the Contractual Requirements Found in Modern Data Privacy Statutes. Modern state privacy laws mandate that agreements with service providers or processors contain specific contractual provisions to govern the parties’ relationship. Which provisions should be included in a vendor agreement, however, differ by state statute. In addition, some state privacy laws impose statutory obligations upon vendors that do not necessarily need to be memorialized in the party’s contract. Read more.
