Why Florida? Series – Tech in Logistics companies from the UK

On October 23-25, 2024, the UK Department for Business and Trade (DBT) based in Atlanta led a delegation of UK tech in logistics companies and start-ups to Miami with the objective of connecting them to relevant stakeholders and buyers in Miami.

As part of a packed 3-days, EACC Florida was delighted to hold a “Why Florida? What Business Leaders Need to Know When Considering Expanding into the US/Florida” seminar for the group on October 24. The Seminar was followed by a Networking Reception attended by several EACC Florida Members and Invited Guests. The event was kindly hosted by Greenberg Traurig and included the following expert-panelists: Bénédicte Boutrouille, Senior Attorney – Fakhoury Global Immigration; Daniel Diaz, Managing Partner – NOVUS Ink Advisors; John Owens, Shareholder – Greenberg Traurig; Peter Stratos, Principal, International Tax – Kaufman Rossin and Moderator Alan Sutin, Principal Shareholder – Greenberg Traurig & President EACC Florida.

The panel offered high-level considerations about US legal entities through which foreign businesses may transact business, compliance concerns, such as licensure by the Florida’s Department of Business and Professional Regulation, and local municipalities, taxation and financial issues, such as opening bank accounts, obtaining an Employer Identification Number, and filing tax returns, and securities, issues around immigration and visas as well as cultural differences of doing business in Europe and Florida.
