Lots of interest for “Elections 2024 – EU, France, UK, USA Implications for Transatlantic Business and Trade”

We had a very nice turn-out for for our September 17th hybrid program titled “Elections 2024 – EU, France, UK, USA Implications for Transatlantic Business and Trade” and hosted by Kaufman Rossin in their lovely offices in Coconut Grove.

Two of our panelists – Michaelangelo Margherita, Head of Trade, Agriculture and Digital Economy at the EU Delegation to the US and Everett Eissenstat, Partner at Squire Patton Boggs – joined remotely from Washington DC, while British Consul General in Miami Rufus Drabble, and Sylvain Perret, Founder at Objectif USA, joined in person.

The event was moderated by Peter Stratos, Principal at Kaufman Rossin and held under the Chatham House Rule allowing speakers, moderator and audience to engage in a candid discussion.

Issues raised included:

  • Changes to be expected in the UK’s trade policy with the US in general and US States in particular.
  • The UK-Florida Memorandum of Understanding and how it is being implemented.
  • Expectations from the new EU Commission’s trade policy and main opportunities and challenges envisioned from 2025 onwards as related to the bilateral trade relationship.
  • Differences of approach between President Trump and Vice-President Harris and possible implications of either administration on transatlantic trade and business.
  • Impact of France’s current political situation on trade with the United States and update on status of tariffs and visas.
  • Impact of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between Canada and the European Union on trade between France and Canada.

Questions raised by the audience included insights into AI Regulation on both sides of the Atlantic, the future of the US-EU coordination via tools such as the EU-US Trade and Technology Council and what the policy alignment between Miami-Dade County, Tallahasee and Washington DC could be after the US elections and potential impact on local priorities in relations to its international partners.

Many attendees lingered well after the end of the program continuing the conversation over some good coffee, outstanding bagels, pastries and fruit.
